Ruth Brooks Visual Art Award
Bonnie's mother Ruth Brooks who passed away in June 2009 was a renown painter of abstracts, florals, barns, county fairs and architecture in and around the Napanee Ontario area. The family in conjunction with Napanee District Secondary School [NDSS] are creating an annual "Ruth Brooks Visual Art Award" in her name. If you are interested in making a contribution, details are noted below.
Ruth Brooks Visual Art Award
An award made possible by family and friends in memory of Napanee artist Ruth Brooks.
Criteria for award: To be presented to a senior N.D.S.S. student who has demonstrated a talent and enthusiasm for Visual Art and who has made a significant contribution to Visual Arts in the school and/or community. The selection of a candidate by the Art Department staff may include but is not limited to those pursuing a career in art.
The award: The award will be a cash award of $250 per year as long as raised funds permit.
Funding for the award: The target for the award is $5000. This amount will ensure the presentation of this award for at least 20 years. Family is donating $2500 and the target amount from family and friends is $2500 as well. Money gained on investment over the 20 years will be awarded in the final year or be used to extend the award beyond the 20 years.
Cheque Payable to: If donations are in the form of a cheque, it should be made out to Napanee District Secondary School with a designation of Ruth Brooks Visual Art Award on the memo line at the bottom of the cheque. The money will then be put in a Limestone Charitable Trust Account and drawn on annually just prior to N.D.S.S. commencement. Donors will then be eligible for a tax receipt.
First Presentation: The family has ensured there are sufficient funds to award this for the first time at this year's NDSS commencement on Saturday November 7th at 4:00PM. A member of the family will be at the commencement to present the award.
